Course Reserve-Leganto: Information for Instructor

Creating a Reading List using Leganto

To create a reading list using Leganto, please follow the step-by-step instructions outlined below. If you require further assistance or would like a library staff member to guide you through the process, do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to help you.

Log in to Brightspace

After logging into Brightspace, select the course you want to add a course list, then click Content

                      

Add Module

Type in Leganto in the "add a Module box" and hit enter

Add Leganto

Click on “Existing Activities" and choose "External Learning Tools"

Search for Leganto and click on the title

Now you are ready to create a list. Please see the next tab "Creating a List"

Setting up a Reading List

Click on PNW Leganto 

Choose Create new list.

Title the course list  (usually course name and number)  LIBR-101 and click Next

                  

Your list is now made, and you can start adding sections and material to the list. Please see the next tab

Create Section 

  • Click on the “Default" to have a general huge list
  • Click Weeks to have different items for each week
    • Fill out how many weeks 
  • Click Create

 

Search and add the Library’s physical and online collection

  • Search for material to add to your reading list
    • Search the Library’s physical and online collection
    • Upload from your own files or collection list

                                                 

Once you search for an item you will get a list of results that you can limit by type     

In the list, you will find

  • Physical books in the library’s collection
  • Open Access Articles
  • E-Books and Online Articles

Click on Add to add it to your list

You can add tags to items before adding them to your list

                                             

If you don't see a "view online" or "available at" we may not have access to or own this item.

Adding PDFs and other documents to your lists

  • Click on Add items
  • Choose Upload a File 

                      

  • You can either drag and drop or upload your document
  • You can change the title (optional)
  • When finished, click next   

                                                                                                                                                                                               

It will appear in your list with a download option

                     

To add material from other websites (ie YouTube) please see the Cite It! tab                                                 

The Cite It! tool is a bookmarklet that can be added to your browser bookmark bar so that you can add resources to your lists. 

Cite It! streamlines the process of adding web pages and streaming videos (i.e. YouTube videos) to a list and pre-filling some of the citation fields for you.

Click on the Gear (settings) in the top, right corner of the Leganto platform.

  • Select Cite It!
  • Click the Cite It! icon.
    • Drag and drop the icon on your Bookmarks toolbar.

Add material to the list using Cite It!

  • Open the webpage you wish to add to the reading list.
  • Make sure you are logged into Leganto.
  • Select Cite It!
  • Leganto will generate a new record in a popup window and will generally auto-populate the title and URL of the page

 

  • Click Add 
  • The item will be added to your chosen list

Finalizing and publishing the List

Once you have all items added

  • Click on "My list is ready."
    • This will send your list to the library to make sure links are working properly 
    • The library staff will change the physical item to complete when they are on the reserve shelves in the library
      • This could take up to 48 hours (holidays and breaks not included)

                                                          

                                             

It will ask who you want to be able to view it

  • Course students (currently enrolled in your course
  • All Students (all PNW Students)
  • Anyone (Anyone who has access)

                                          

 

 

     You are now finished and it's ready for your students to start viewing
