Information Literacy: AI in Higher Education: AI Detection Tools

Information literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, and use information ethically

AI Detection Tools

AI detectors are designed to identify whether a piece of writing was generated by artificial intelligence. While these tools may seem useful for evaluating student work, they come with significant limitations:

Important Notes

False Positives & False Negatives: These tools can incorrectly flag human-written work as AI-generated—or fail to detect actual AI-generated content.

Bias Against Non-Native English Writers: Research shows that AI detectors often misidentify writing by non-native English speakers as AI-generated.
